Remember, remember the 5th of november, gunpowder treason and plot . . .. . . . gosh if there was ever a case for really understanding the laws of the land, this half baked plot must be it. At this time of year we tend to overlook the penny for the guy kind of pocket money grab – or legalised begging as it could be viewed as today! The children by and large are very influenced by advertising on tv and all the clever money is on Halloween. That little bit earlier than Guy Fawkes and Bonfire Night, this celebration of spookiness and anything to do with ghosties and ghools is met with joy and the tinkling of cash in the collecting bins. Children come round a few days – and weeks- beforehand demanding to know if I’m given them a trick or a treat. As I’m old enough to be a penny for the guy person, I groan and just shove pennies into the proffered collecting box!
