Having worked in legal case work, I have always been drawn to any reports of court cases and particularly employment tribunal issues to be doubly interesting. It was with great satisfaction (secret of course) that I heard about a very important case recently involving a huge company with mixed clarity when it comes to their hq and hr sections who appeared to have made a catastrophic error of judgment with regards the outcome of a rudundancy exercise. This particular company are well known in the industry for not entertaining any unions and dismissing any employment litigation at the first opportunity. They pride themselves on being known as toughies on all such matters. It was still surprising to read they’d selected a woman, from their HR just about to come back from maternity leave – this still is definitely on the no no list. Good job a very good legal team was in place to win her case in style!
